Every year, hundreds of 18-year-olds across Cuyahoga County age out of foster care. For many, their circumstances are grim. In 2022, nearly 40% ‘graduated’ into unstable housing conditions and dozens could not be found. Many had not finished high school.
These young adults are some of the most vulnerable members of our community and they urgently need our support. That’s where HART House comes in; we help those who are aging out of foster care make the transition into independence. With a variety of programs and services, HART House supports teens throughout our community and foster teens who are aging out of care.
Every year, when the cold weather arrives, we distribute winter clothes – inner and outerwear, as well as hygiene items.
Each summer, we provide a box full of items that teens can use to set up their independent living spaces.
Teens aging out of foster care are facing a critical situation. They are given just 10 minutes and a trash bag to pack up their lives. This is not enough time nor dignity for these vulnerable young individuals. We urgently need support and resources to ensure they can transition with the essentials and a sense of security. Join us in providing the care and assistance these teens deserve during this challenging time. Together, we can make a life-changing difference.
